McKay FBLA Members were honored at the May 6, 2018 School Board meeting. Director of High Schools, Larry Ramirez make the following presentation.
The McKay High School Future Business Leaders of America Club sent 13 members to the state conference in Portland last month.
The group represented McKay incredibly well. In competitions with FBLA students from 60 schools around the state, McKay’s 13 students earned six Top 10 awards.
Most impressive are the first- and second-place finishes by four McKay seniors.
In the Marketing competition, Ben Ho and Montse (Mon-say) Coria (Korea) won Second Place. First the students took an online test, and they scored in the top 10 so they moved on to give a presentation on a Marketing scenario in front of judges.
In the Banking & Financial Systems competition, Daniel Dang and Henry Trinh (Trin rhymes with Win) won First Place. The students took an online test, and also scored high enough to give a presentation in front of the judges. All three judges gave them perfect 100 percent scores.
These two teams qualified to compete at FBLA Nationals in Baltimore, Maryland this summer. The first place team of Henry Trihn and Daniel Dang will be competing.
Their trip will be primarily funded by proceeds from the McKay Scot Shop, thanks to the hard work of students. Both Henry and Daniel work in the student-run store and in the MAPS Credit Union branch at McKay.
McKay is incredibly proud of all 13 students who competed in the state competitions. To get six top ten finishes is an amazing accomplishment, said FBLA Club Advisor Carl Garner.
Congratulations McKay High School students on your success at the state competitions this year, and good luck Henry and Daniel at the national competition!
