Friday night students from South Salem Culinary and McKay Culinary worked together to put on a six course dinner for the community. The theme was Surf N Turf (something from the Sea or something from the Land with each course).
Along with the menu we had a specialty drink menu created by Sammy (a student who wants to be a Mixologist after high school).
The students worked very hard both front of house and back of house to ensure the community was finished by the promised time of 8:30pm.
At the end of the meal the students came out and introduced themselves by name, grade and what they worked on during the event.
Chef Laura explained that Culinary is a CTE program and maybe college is not a right fit for everyone after high school. CTE programs offer experience and training in technical fields where students might have the opportunity to either go straight into industry or attend a technical college post high school.
Students then shared how CTE programs (especially Culinary) help prepare them for ANY career choice they make by practicing Professional Skills employers are looking for.
The community was able to ask questions to the students and everyone did a great job responding with thoughtful answers.
Sammy (the phenomenal mixologist) ended the evening by thanking everyone for attending and told them she hoped to see them at the next event in April for Taste of Italy.
Chefs Laura and Chris are VERY proud of their students and so grateful to the community for supporting the Culinary programs.
