Ninth Grade College & Career-Preparation List

  • Take challenging classes in core academic subject. Most colleges require four years of English, three years of social studies, three years of mathematics, three years of science, and two years of a foreign language.
  • Get involved in school-or-community based activities that interest you.
  • Complete at least 100 hours of community service or volunteering.
  • Start a list of your award, honors and extracurricular activities.
  • Sign up for SAT Practice Question of the Day.
  • Explore career possibilities in CIS, Naviance or College Navigator
  • Explore to learn about post high school options.
  • Attend college/career fairs
  • Start exploring the difference in schools to determine what might be a good fit after high school graduation: jobs, career-technical, community college, or 4-year college.
  • Consider taking an SAT or ACT prep course.
  • Volunteer in the field you may enjoy or in a career field that is of interest to you.
