Attention parents of Seniors, tomorrow night Wednesday November 28, Project Grad will be meeting in the McKay Library. We will be talking about the upcoming Senior All Night Party. There is 190 days left until graduation, and project grad still needs help fundraising in order to make this years party successful. Please come with your ideas, and with your schedule, so we can get some parents signed up to help with our fundraising efforts. We currently are collecting cans and bottles in order to take advantage of a match program at BottleDrop, now until December 9th. During this time frame only, we have the opportunity to receive a match anywhere from 10-40% extra on bottle deposits. Its a great way to give to our seniors, so please consider donating your cans and bottles.
On Wednesday, February 7th and Friday, February 9th we sent several McKay AVID 12th grade ambassadors to Waldo and Stephens Middle Schools to speak with current 8th grade students about the transition to high school, strategies for managing busy, stressful schedules, and how AVID can play a role in students’ success. Our seniors shared honestly about the obstacles they’ve faced, and why they have chosen to remain in AVID despite periods of doubt and uncertainty. They have each been accepted to multiple four-year universities and will be making some big decisions in the next few months! We’re proud of them for being courageous leaders.

On-site admissions with PSU and WOU were a huge success this week here at McKay! 52 of our McKay students were accepted to PSU and 29 to WOU! Congratulations to these McKay seniors who will be continuing their education after graduation this Spring.

Dear Students and Families,
Throughout the month of November, schools and community organizations across the state will be celebrating Oregon College Application Week (CAW). These sites will host events to assist students with the college application process. We are thrilled that McKay High School will participate in the CAW effort, with the goal of ensuring that all members of our senior class apply to at least one two-year or four-year college or university this fall. McKay’s CAW events will occur November 6th-9th.
The primary goal of Oregon College Application Week is to provide an opportunity for all Oregon seniors to complete and file college applications. To us, college means any education program beyond high school including certificate programs, two-year degree programs, and four-year degree programs.
Students should complete the College Application Worksheet we have attached to this letter in order to be efficient when applying to college. We are encouraging all students who have not yet applied to college to complete the worksheet prior to the event, as it has all the information students will need to complete an online application. We expect that students and their families may need to work together in gathering the information listed in the checklist. This event takes place in our library. It will be open all throughout that week, all day, with staff available to help with student support.
Families are welcome to visit the school to assist their student during the application process. In addition, if you are interested in volunteering during the event, please let me know. Volunteers can greet and sign in students, assist students with the completion of online college applications, or distribute information about financial aid opportunities.
If you have any questions please call Jennifer Strong, Counselor, at (503) 399-3080 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also find more information about the initiative online at oregongoestocollege.org. Thank you in advance for your support of this exciting initiative to encourage McKay students to make college a part of their future.
