August 10th, 2020

Principal, Rob Schoepper

Welcome back, Royal Scot Families! The start of the 20-21 school year will not be the same as we have known, so I wanted to share some important information to our families, and to assist you all in having a successful start to the school year.

20-21 School Year Options

Families can choose between Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), which is a component of a Blended Learning Model, or the online EDGE program.

If families choose Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), they don’t have to do anything but make sure their student is registered at their neighborhood school for the 20-21 school year. Registration is done through ParentVUE.

Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) will be different than the spring:

o Your students will have assigned time each day to meet with their class in a schedule.
o We will be taking attendance, monitoring learning and awarding grades and credits for all 9th – 12th grade students.
o Your student’s teachers will be available to students and will be teaching new content at a high level.
o Daily advisory classes (CCR) will be required for all students. CCR is our College and Career Readiness Advisory program.
o CDL will be in place until at least November 13th for 9th and 10th graders.
o CDL will be in place until at least January 28th for 11th and 12th graders.

If families choose EDGE – which is 100% online – they need to submit an online application. Enrollment in EDGE keeps their student connected to their neighborhood school, but is a different educational platform.

Our school district has shared more information about both of these options. Check out the Return to School 2020 page on our district website for more info!

Salem-Keizer Public Schools will also implement a ‘Slow Start’ to the 20-21 school year. September 8-11 will be used to establish connections with students and families. The official start of comprehensive distance learning, including the recently announced online-only EDGE program, is set for Monday, September 14, 2020.

Enrollment Changes
If your student won’t be enrolled at McKay High School in the fall – family moved, homeschooling, enrolled in different educational or school program, etc. – please contact us!

Building Closed for Summer Bond Construction
Our campus is currently closed. Our school is under bond construction and our staff is on summer break. Please continue to check our school website for updates and about back-to-school info. We will share relevant information leading up to the soft start week of September 8th-11th, and how we can remotely help our families with any questions they may have.

Yearbook, Locker & Other School Item Distribution
Student items from school lockers, PE lockers, and classrooms will be available at a later date this summer/early fall. This also includes pre-purchased yearbooks. Once the district determines a plan, we will let our families know.
