WOU Virtual Fall Campus Visit Program

Western Oregon University’s fall virtual campus visitation programs and application workshop opportunities for  students announced.

A list of visitation programs and application workshops can be accessed at https://network.wou.edu/portal/campus_visit.

Fall programs and workshops include the opportunity for high school seniors and transfer students to complete an application for Fall Term 201. The $60 application fee is waived as well!

Admissions is currently offering virtual campus tours via Facebook on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. (Pacific Time). Recorded tours are also available in English and Spanish.

KPNW Scholarship Date Change

The deadline to apply for the KPNW Health Care Career Scholarship is Wednesday, December 30, 2020, 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Application registration will close on December 23 at 5 p.m. Pacific time.

¡Avanza! – A virtual event for U of I- Nov 17-19, 2020

University of Idaho is hosting Avanza Virtually this year, November 17, 18 and 19 from 6 – 8 p.m. MT.

It is our specialty event for Hispanic/Latinx high school seniors and their families.

Avanza is a great opportunity for Hispanic/Latinx seniors to discover how U of I will help them achieve their goals. They’ll meet our staff and alumni, learn about the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), and get one-on-one help with their admission application and FAFSA before our December 1 priority date (the early consideration date for our diversity scholarships). All services at Avanza for parents and students are offered in Spanish and English.

Students who attend Avanza will be interviewed for a chance to win one of twenty $500 scholarships provided by Idaho Central Credit Union.

Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s 2020 Youth Awards

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation’s 2020 youth Awards educational grants program is now accepting applications.

Annual Youth Awards will award students who are in the graduating Class of 2021 with up to $1,000 in educational grants to fund their higher education or a community based project.  Recipients will be selected for their accomplishments in the classroom, community and for their excellence in various educational categories.  Recipients will also be celebrated in virtual ceremonies.  The deadline to apply is December 6th, 2020.  Students can apply and find more information at www.HispanicHeritage.org .  If you have questions email at youthawards@hispanicheritage.or

  • Review SAT or ACT scores if tests were taken last year, to determine if they need to be retaken.
  • Register for SAT or ACT if not already taken or needs to be retaken.
  • Get an FSA ID: fsaid.ed.gov
  • Attend financial aid nights, workshops, and events
  • Research colleges/universities/career-technical schools and their majors and fields of training
  • Review transcript to be sure colleges’ admissions requirements can be met
  • Check and monitor college priority application and regular application deadlines
  • Attend college visitation events at your school
  • Narrow down list of colleges (3 colleges)
  • Begin work on college admissions and scholarship essays; have your ASPIRE mentor proofread your work
  • Fill out request forms for letters of recommendations to give to teachers, counselors and/or employers. Give letter writers at least 4 weeks advance notice.
  • Begin submitting college applications; monitor deadlines
  • If applying to a private college, find out if they will accept the Common Application; check the list of participating schools at CommonApp.org
  • Attend college/career fairs
  • Complete Oregon Promise application (community college applicants)
  • If you’ve been in foster care, check whether you are eligible for the Chafee Education and Training Grant
  • Attend an OSAC Finding Funds presentation or watch the video online
  • Create account in OSAC Student Portal
  • Start OSAC Personal Statements and Activity Chart
  • Explore local, regional and university scholarship opportunities
  • Apply for at least 60 scholarships
  • Complete FAFSA: Opens October 1, use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool or order tax transcript
  • Review Student Aid Report (SAR) and make FAFSA corrections
  • Undocumented students and DACA students: Complete ORSAA to be eligible for Oregon Promise, Oregon Opportunity Grant Funds, and OSAC Scholarships

  • Feb 15: Submit OSAC application by Early Brid deadline; includes Activity Chart, personal statements, and transcript (Volunteers can help by proofreading everything before submission)
  • Check to see if mid-year transcripts have been sent to colleges applied to
  • Find an ECMC College Night event to attend
  • Be mindful of deadlines for accepting financial aid awards
  • Keep your grades up! Colleges pay close attention to the second half of senior year!
  • Notify all schools of your decision
  • If community college bound, take placement test
  • Be sure to request your year-end transcript is sent to the college you will be attending
  • Respond to all mail/email from your selected college
  • Register for housing, orientation and classes
  • Tour chosen campus
