McKay Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Glen Fowles as Head Football Coach at McKay High School. Glen comes to us from Willamette University where he played, coached, and educated student athletes for 23 years. During his time at Willamette, Coach Fowles was named 2008 National Offensive Coordinator of the Year, and was head coach of the Bearcats for 7 years.
Glen is married with 2 children grades 3 and 5 here in Salem.
We are excited for Glen to be joining our McKay Community. He shares the same values of teaching Leadership, Scholarship, and Competitiveness to all of our student athletes. Go Scots!
Salem Sports and Breakfast Club have shared with us that they are honoring McKay’s, Yobeli Manzo, with Senior Athlete of the Year for boys soccer!

October 17, 2018 the McKay Cross Country team ran a 3K (1.87 mile) race at Keizer Rapids. Junior Ramiro Gonzalez took first place on the boys side with a time of 9:39 breaking the McKay school record previously held by Devin White from 2008. Sophomore Jazmine Liebl took first place on the girls side with a time of 11:20 breaking the McKay school record previously held by Anika Rasubala from 2015. 19 other athletes broke their own personal best records during the meet. Congrats Scots!
On Saturday our 7 on 7 Team won their game against South 43-16. They finished the season as division champions with a 6-1 record!
Shay Coons has been selected as this week’s Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Athlete of the Week for her performance against North Salem. The Royal Scots won in 3 sets and Shay had 8 aces on 13 attempts, 2.35 passer rating with 11 digs and 19 kills in the game. Please congratulate her as we celebrate her, and her team’s success.
Zontel Brown has been selected as this week’s Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Athlete of the Week for his performance against Forest Grove. The Royal Scots won 35-14 and Zontel had 109 yards receiving, a touchdown, and an interception in the game. Please congratulate him as we celebrate his, and his team’s success.
