The McKay FBLA Club made a big impression this week. Six (6) teams tested as part of the FBLA Regional Competition.
To the delight of all, all 6 teams scored high enough to make it into the top 10 for their category. This means they are qualified to compete in the FBLA State competition this spring!
Congrats Royal Scots FBLA Club members!

The annual CTE & Industry Summit , where CTE programs and industry professionals meet and share opportunities to coexist is January 31st to Feb. 2nd at the Salem Convention Center. This year a preconference tour and luncheon was scheduled . The lunch was held at CTEC and we were asked to provide the meal. I joined seven of our Culinary Club students in preparing a three course plated and served meal. The students served a Mexican Caesar Salad , with cilantro lime dressing toasted pepitas and cotija cheese . Surf and Turf , thin sliced flat iron steak with chimichurri sauce topped with chili lime prawns and served with stewed red beans and corn pudding. For dessert they served Tres Leches cupcakes. The meal and service was a big hit!
Students in McKay H.S’s Drawing and Painting program have been busy working on developing large and medium format paintings. Students constructed stretcher bars, stretched canvas, gessoed or primed their canvas, and developed dynamic compositions from a variety of sources. Students also developed new skills and techniques such as underpainting and color-blocking. Intro students are photographed here applying their color theory knowledge into practice. Students learned to successfully mix tints, tones, and shades of primary, secondary and tertiary colors while simultaneously developing their brush control. With the Spring semester under way the studio is ramping up with more and more activity. Check our class Instagram @mckay_art_sanctuary to stay up to date!
