The McKay High School Band Program is under the direction of Scott Avzaradel and has 6 different groups performing standard band and jazz repertoire as well as music from movies, shows, and other genres.
This ensemble is made of students from Percussion, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. This group performs at all of the Home Royal Scot Football games as well as various parades around the area.
A non-auditioned group made up of students who are here to learn and get better. This ensembles performs 4 times a year and is also involved in the Pep Band.
An auditioned group that consists of students ranging from Freshman-Seniors. The members of this group are involved in Marching Band, Pep Band, and Jazz Band.
Our top auditioned group here at McKay High School. This group is made up of students ranging from Freshman-Seniors. The members of this group are involve in Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Pit Ensembles for Musicals. These students are also involved in various chamber groups outside of class. Wind Ensemble has a track record of competing at the State Championship for the past 6 years and plan to do so this year.
This is an auditioned group made up of Freshman-Seniors. This group travels to Jazz Festivals across the region to compete for a spot in the State Jazz Championships. These students are required to also be a part of a Concert Performing Group (Concert, Symphonic, Wind Ensemble). Some members of the group are also involved in a Jazz Combo, focusing solely on improvisation.
Percussion is open to students who have successfully auditioned for the Marching Band drum line. Enrollment is required for drum line members. Rehearsals and performances outside of class time will be required. This course covers marching band and concert band and is required for percussion students on the Marching Band drum line.
