A group of McKay underclass men and women attended an Engineering Day field trip on February 27th. Mr. Wenger, the Engineering/CAD instructor, and Mrs. Hull, a Math instructor, had the opportunity to select and lead the students on this field trip. They said that they tried pick young students that had demonstrated math, science and engineering skills that may not have considered engineering as a future profession. The trip was limited to 20 students, but Mr. Wenger was able to get a few extra McKay students on the field trip. Participation by McKay students by far outnumbered all the other high schools in attendance. The students who attended had the opportunity to meet with college representatives, quiz engineers, listen to an engineer speaker and tour industry sites. The hope is that this activity will have a positive influence on these students as they begin to make career and college decisions. Mr. Wenger said, “We want the student to be taking classes at McKay that will help them prepare for their future.” Both Mrs. Hull and Mr. Wenger are involved with the MESA club (Math Engineering, Science Achievement). If you, or you know of someone interested in MESA, please encourage them to attend MESA meetings from 3:30-5:00 on Thursdays in the Auxiliary math building. Also, McKay will be offering an Intro to Engineering class next year, so please consider signing up for it. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hull (pt. 3) or Mr. Wenger. (Rm 123).
